A detractor of the Greenhouse effect claimed that the Greenhouse wasn' t real - it was a result of the heat island effect in cities. Even if that was true, it still shows that Humans are altering the earth's climate. And as our citites get bigger. The climate is a chaotic system, you change the inputs, you change the outputs.
No one event proves or disproves the greenhouse effect. You take the evidence on a whole. There is a warming trend in many places. The 90's were the warmest on record.
I have heard of analysis that suggests that on the whole, the Greenhouse would be good for the US economy. Increase insurance premiums dues to a greater frequency of hurricanes and some damage to crops due to heat damage and more frequent drought. However a warmer climate will increase agricultural yields generally and reduce heating cost particularly in the North. I'll try and find the report.
