Today, I watched The Killing Zone on ABC's 4 Corners (originally produced for the U.K.'s Channel 4 )
In it someone said that each death was revenge for the last death, fueling the insidious cycle of violence that keeps the hate fresh.
I have thought for a long time, that the palenstinians have been doing very badly in the western media as far as the propoganda stakes go.
The Doco was not the nicest thing to watch. Peace activatists, journalist died because of the action of the Israeli Defence Force. A girl, sitting in a UN sponsored school is shot in the head and blinded. Houses are bulldozed.
Seeing it, you understand the fustration of the Palenstianians and how they are driven to suicicde bombings. But when you see the effects of the suicide bombings on innocent people, you cannot support the intafada. But you can not support the Israeli Occupation. You become apathetic, watching two people trying their best to annihilate each other, and leaving countless innocent victims.
.In the Palestinian Israeli Conflict one side has access to helicopter gunships, tanks and high-tech weaponary, the other does not. In an unequal conflict, what tactics are left. Hopefully, soon some one will realize that the pen (or keyboard) is mightier than the sword. That things will come to a stalemate and the endless killing will be seen for what it is - pointless violence & some sort of peaceful accord can be meet.
Having said that - the Isralis are preventing journalists from reporting from the Gaza Strip. The reporter said that silence does not mean an absence of violence.
I don't really understand the intricacies or history of the conflict (do I need to be to abhor the violence?). But if the people can't learn to share the land (Kindegarten taught us how to co-operate - or should have) - Jerusuleam should become the UN headquarters
Victory will not come through suicide bombers.
